Popsicle Summer

A pumpkin house on water with a dragon on top.

Last summer, my poem was chosen as a winner of the Sidewalk Poetry Competition in Appleton, WI. The poem, Popsicle Summer, was stamped into three sidewalks through the city, and I got to read the poem at city council.

Now, my city is celebrating our newly renovated public library, and I’m delighted to share my poem has been stamped on the sidewalk in front of the building!

You can visit Popsicle Summer at any of the four locations. If you do, send me a photo.

  • Appleton Public Library, east side
  • 1105 West Summer Street
  • 1801 Quintin Court
  • On Midway Road between Kernan and Telulah

For those of you who may not find yourselves in Appleton for a while, here’s the poem.

Popsicle Summer

I never learned to name

the bird call

that sounds of blue popsicles,

of a day longer than a year.

I never learned

but the bird calls all the same

This is the stamp they used. I’m keeping it and will be on the look out for some wet concrete…
